Nike is now offering its first soccer shoes that use carbon fiber, and it’s bringing the technology to the NBA.
The shoes, which are named Sport Brella and Sport Rebar, are part of the Nike Basketball League, the team announced.
They’re the first sports shoes with a carbon fiber lining, Nike’s senior vice president of global product strategy said in a statement.
“Nike is excited to partner with the NBA to offer these new shoes to fans in our inaugural year of the league,” Scott Blacker said.
“This collaboration builds on Nike’s extensive history of delivering high-performance and cutting-edge products to professional and youth athletes.
We look forward to collaborating with our partners to help the league continue to deliver a high level of entertainment and player experiences for fans.”
The new sneakers are expected to be available in spring 2019.
The NBA has had a soft spot for carbon fiber for years.
Last season, it introduced its new NBA+ shoe, which uses carbon fiber as the sole material for the heel and tongue.
The league also partnered with Nike last year for the Nike Flyknit series, which is made from the same material.
